Frequently Asked Questions
How to make soft, homemade cookies?
For soft cookies:
- Use brown sugar rather than regular white sugar, as it provides more moisture.
- Don't overbake your cookies: they should be lightly golden but still soft when they come out of the oven. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
How can I keep cookies puffed up?
To maintain the volume of your cookies, avoid overworking the dough once the flour is added. Form smooth, round balls of dough and flatten them only slightly. You can also let the dough rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before baking to prevent it from spreading.
Should you put milk in cookies?
No, there's no need to add milk to this cookie recipe. The egg and butter provide enough moisture.
Can the milk chocolate in this recipe be replaced with other ingredients? Chocolate chips, dark chocolate, almonds, hazelnuts?
Absolutely! You can use dark or milk chocolate chips, chopped chocolate, or even add nuts like almonds, hazelnuts, or pecans to vary the flavors and personalize the recipe. These cookies are a hit with kids of all ages.
Can brown sugar be used instead of light brown sugar?
Yes, you can replace brown sugar with dark brown sugar, which will give your cookies a slightly different but equally delicious flavor.
