OUR MISSION
Bringing tomorrow's gastronomy to life
Valrhona is proud to be a B Corp, part of a community of companies dedicated to creating a fairer, more sustainable world. We actively tackle societal and environmental challenges, such as fighting global warming and reducing our carbon footprint, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality across our entire value chain by 2025. This involves working with producer organizations on reforestation, forest protection, and agroforestry, while encouraging customers to adopt sustainable practices. Valrhona focuses on improving cocoa producers' living conditions and protecting the environment through long term partnerships, traceable cocoa sourcing, and community support projects. Our strategy is built on three pillars: enhancing farmer livelihoods, protecting forests and biodiversity, and achieving carbon neutrality. By co creating a sustainable model for the chocolate industry with everyone involved, from producers to coworkers, chefs to chocolate lovers, Valrhona continuously strives to perfect our expertise, expand our aromatic palette, and innovate in the world of chocolate. By choosing Valrhona, you contribute to creating a more sustainable cocoa sector and join a community passionate about chocolate. Working directly with over 17,000 cocoa producers across 14 countries and ensuring full traceability, we support fair practices, combat deforestation, and maintain high-quality cocoa.
Valrhona is dedicated to education and combating child labor, acknowledging it as a critical issue in the cocoa industry. Since joining the International Cocoa Initiative in 2017, we have worked to protect children in cocoa growing communities and ensure a brighter future for them. This commitment has resulted in building or renovating four schools in Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Venezuela, benefiting 672 students. To enhance our environmental sustainability efforts, we aim to limit global warming to below 1.5°C (2.7°F) by measuring our carbon footprint, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting carbon capture initiatives. We focus on energy efficiency by using 100% hydroelectric power, cutting water usage in chocolate production by half by 2025, and minimizing waste through recycling and composting. Our initiatives also include eco-friendly packaging designs and reducing transport emissions with low-emission vehicles and reduced air freight. In cocoa-producing regions, we promote responsible farming practices to prevent deforestation, preserve soil quality, and protect the unique flavors of cocoa. Additionally, through L’École Valrhona, we share our expertise and support the professional development of chefs by providing training and fostering creativity.
Valrhona is dedicated to reinventing gastronomy to align with sustainable development goals, guiding chefs towards more ethical practices that consider food's impact on biodiversity, climate, and public health. We support chefs who incorporate social and environmental considerations into their work, aiming to make gastronomy both enjoyable and beneficial for the planet. In 2021, we partnered with Food Made Good and 30 chefs from 12 countries to develop practical tools, including a guide and a self-assessment tool for sustainable sweet cuisine. Through L’École Valrhona, our chocolate and pastry school, we promote excellence, innovation, and ethical gastronomy. Our global subsidiaries also engage in local culinary projects to advance sustainable gastronomy. Our approach to sustainability emphasizes co production and innovation with farmers, employees, and customers, fostering a collaborative environment that drives positive change across the industry.
In 2021, Valrhona introduced AMATIKA 46%, the first Vegan Grand Cru from Madagascar, showcasing our dedication to a fair and sustainable cocoa sector. We focus on co development with employees and foster strong, trust-based relationships with suppliers to build a sustainable supply chain that meets diverse customer needs for high quality products and industry insights. As we challenge the status quo and aim for a positive impact, Valrhona remains committed to creating a responsible industry through collaborative efforts at all levels, from production to consumer engagement. Guided by our mission, "Together, good becomes better," we inspire a collective movement towards a fair and sustainable cocoa sector and a gastronomy that benefits both people and the planet. Our efforts are aimed at making the cocoa industry fair and sustainable, not only by creating exceptional products but also by staying true to our values.
